A young man from Panchthar, who was working in Korea through the Employment Permit System (EPS), committed suicide last night. Vivek Rai had been working in Korea on an EPS visa for the past two and a half years.

He was found dead this morning in Nongjang. Dumbar, a Nepali friend who works with the company, said that he did not know that he had gone out to sleep after eating and sleeping with him yesterday.

After seeing the friend hanging, he called the owner of the company and informed the police. The body was taken out for the postmortem after the police had arrived.

The minimum wage for workers in Korea will be 8590 won per hour, effective January 1. Compared to 2019, the minimum wage for workers working 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, will increase by 2.9% this year to 17,95,310 won.
